Cook Time: 20 minutes
Total Time: 40 minutes
Servings: 1 9x13 pan

Ingredients & Supplies

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 2 cans cream of mushroom soup
  • 6-8 slices American cheese
  • 1 bag frozen tater tots
  • 1/2 onion, diced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Garlic powder and onion powder to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven according to directions on the tater tots package.
  2. In a skillet, brown the ground beef and chop into small pieces.
  3. Drain the fat from the pan and add in the diced onion and cook until onion is translucent (about 2-5 minutes).
  4. In your baking dish, add the cooked ground beef mixture, cream of mushroom soup, and seasonings. Mix well and spread evenly across the pan.
  5. Layer the American cheese slices over the beef mixture.
  6. Top with the frozen tater tots, spreading them evenly over the cheese layer.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven according to the tater tots package instructions, usually around 20-30 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden brown and crispy.

Tips & Notes

Other cheeses may be substituted if you do not have or like American cheese.

If you do not like cream of mushroom, you can use cream of celery or cream of chicken soup.

Some people like to add corn, green beans, or peas. I do not add them to my recipe, but feel free to customize it to your liking!
